Bear One Another’s Burdens

Teaching ourselves and our children about compassion takes practice, practice, practice. And intentional effort to see others with the eyes of Jesus. We get so many stories of compassion in the gospels and that is a great place to start. Listen and be encouraged with the scripture and insights from Steph and Christine as they talk compassion. 

Discussion Points:

• What does compassion look like? Compassion definition: sympathetic consciousness of others’ distress together with a desire to alleviate it [Merriam Webster Dictionary]
• Is love and compassion the same thing?
• Seeing a need and going above and beyond.
• Being aware of how to help others in the way that they want to be helped 

Discussion Scriptures:

• Galatians 6:2 – Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ.
• 1 Peter 3:8 – Finally, all of you, have unity of mind, sympathy, brotherly love, a tender heart, and a humble mind.
• Good Samaritan story: Luke 10:30-35 – Jesus replied, “A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and he fell among robbers, who stripped him and beat him and departed, leaving him half dead. Now by chance a priest was going down that road, and when he saw him he passed by on the other side. So likewise a Levite, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side. But a Samaritan, as he journeyed, came to where he was, and when he saw him, he had compassion. He went to him and bound up his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. Then he set him on his own animal and brought him to an inn and took care of him. And the next day he took out two denarii[a] and gave them to the innkeeper, saying, ‘Take care of him, and whatever more you spend, I will repay you when I come back.’”
